The Reef Restoration Foundation (RRF) is a grassroots, not-for-profit organization dedicated to restoring the Great Barrier Reef through community-driven coral restoration efforts. Established in 2017, RRF operates ocean-based coral nurseries to support reef resilience and recovery.

🌱 Resilience & Recovery Program

RRF's signature program focuses on two core objectives:

  1. Creating Spawning Stock: Cultivating coral fragments in nurseries to produce hundreds of millions of additional coral larvae annually, enhancing reef resilience during favorable conditions.
  2. Preserving Spawning Stock During Adverse Conditions: Lowering nurseries during periods of warm water and extreme weather to protect coral fragments and facilitate recovery during challenging times.

The organization employs ocean-based nurseries suspended in the water column, where coral fragments grow into spawning stock. A single colony can produce over 100,000 fertilized larvae, contributing to the ecosystem's regeneration. At full capacity, RRF's nursery network can generate approximately 600 million additional fertilized larvae annually.
